ARRIVAL ARTWORK

A NEW PERSPECTIVE

The transitional portal intrigues the client at his arrival and opens his mind towards a new way of seeing things. Eight artists members of LM100 have realized 47 unique works of art for every division and region where le Méridien hotels are located in the world.

In Barcelona we chose the local photographer and lecturer in Fine Art, Joan Fontcuberta. His work is focused on representations, wisdom, memory, science, confidence, ambiguity and playing with images. He joined LM100 after presenting his "Paisajes sin Memoria" (Landscapes without Memory) collection for the entrance halls. In it he explores the intersection of photography and digital images.

GOOGLEGRAMA: METEOROLOGY

The work that welcomes you to Le Méridien Barcelona represents a weather map of the western Mediterranean announcing good weather for the Barcelona area. The images that make up the texture of the photomosaic refer to the qualities and values of Barcelona (history, art, architecture, food, hospitality, traditions, business, etc).
The image was made using a photomosaic composed of 5,600 pieces captured on Google.

GoogleGrams challenge the idea that the internet has a universal, democratic and exhaustive memory. The problem is that we lose ourselves in so much information. GoogleGrams also explore conflicts between images and words and between the fragments and the whole (they give a double perception - close-up and far-off - that reveals different realities and a type of conceptual trompe l'oeil.

Fontcuberta's masterpiece is the beginning of an expectant arrival experience imagined to inspire the creative guests.

CUR - Exp Sensorial 160x150

SENSORIAL  EXPERIENCE

The sensorial experience to the guest's arrival is made up of three elements:

01.ESSENCE LM01 (Le Labbo):
Every perfume is built on a pyramid, where one ingredient predominates. The LM01 is essentially a globe, with the same percentage of all ingredients, which are: incense, iris, ginger, cedar and moss. Thinking about the culture surrounding Le Méridien Barcelona, the scent evokes the smell of an old library.

02. MUSIC (Sony/BMG):
Over 400 songs, which will rotate throughout the year have been created exclusively for Le Méridien by Sony / BMG.

03. LIGHT:
Light naturally varies from day to evening, to dim candles at night. The transition from afternoon to night, is held in the lobby with an EVENING RITUAL  during which a receptionist plays the day while another plays the night and they carry out a ceremony that surprises customers with a change in the light and musical rhythm that culminates in an invitation to drink a glass of cava.

THE ELEVATOR EXPERIENCE

AN ELEVATOR THAT THRILLS WITH ITS MUSIC

Using the elevator of le Méridien Barcelona can be surprisingly thrilling. We transform a predictable ride in an elevator with generic music or silence into something magic that really transports our client.

LM100 has the help of Grammy Award-winning musician and composer Henri Scars Struck for this. He believes that music is a means of travelling conceptually and emotionally. For this reason, birdsong, the rhythm of a horse's hooves, the beating of a heart and even silence... everything exists in a universe of sound. For Henri, emotion is the only key. He explores a wide variety of genres from jazz, pop and hip hop to classical music, electronica and world music and has worked with Malcolm McLaren and collaborated with renowned musicians such as Alejandro Sanz, Shakira, Thierry Dreyfus, Yves Saint Laurent, The Police and Lenny Kravitz, amongst others.

At anytime of the day, our clients will be enjoying a mix of sounds and natural rhythms with musical elements according to the following schedule:

From 24:00 To 06:00 - Water
From 06:00 To 12:00 - Forest
From 12:00 To 18:00 - Market/ Coffee
From 18:00 To 24:00 - Nature

The role of Henry in LM100TM began with the orchestra composition and sound installations of Le Meridien Hotels & Resorts and our web site. In addition to the elevator experience,  he has created a musical theme from 24 hours to receive guests with an unexpected and surprising experience while going through the transitional portal
